Cockles, a spaniel puppy, is the means of introducing Robin and Drey Graeme to the Macs – Shona, Roddy and Gordon. They are invited to join the three on their boat ‘The Merry Macs’ for a camping holiday on Gannet Island. Drey is seized with the treasure bug and manages to infect the whole party with her enthusiasm to hunt for Angus Swift’s lost treasure. Their determination to be successful is greatly increased when they find that an American, Henry Koop, is coming to the island with the same purpose in view.
