Pope John Paul II’s encyclical on the moral of life, Veritatis Splendor, has aroused extraordinary interest and controversy inside and outside the Catholic Church. In bold and uncompromising language the Pope reaffirms Christian moral teaching, condemns the relativism, scepticism and unchecked individualism of the modern world, and criticizes some established trends in contemporary Catholic theology.
